[1]Circled like a barrel by its ramparts, Beaune is the capital city of Burgundy wines. Its famous wine cellars contain treasures jealously kept away from the light. Over a two-day period stimulate all your senses through an exploration of the wine country and an introduction to wine tasting featuring the great wines.
N.B.: this programme is possible without a vehicle.
[1]1st Day:
- Rendez-vous with a sommelier-guide in the largest wine cellars in Burgundy, installed in a former monastery dating from the 17th century. Your tour will take you through an impressive labyrinth of galleries in which several million bottles are stored. Your initiation to wine tasting will allow you to perfect your knowledge of grape varieties, wine appellations and tasting techniques. After this introduction, you will find thirteen wines waiting to delight your palate. There will be a welcome present before you leave.
- Lunch: you are free to lunch at the restaurant of your choice (at your charge).
- Afternoon: at the beginning of the afternoon, a guide will take you in his vehicle for a tour through the vineyards and traditional villages located along the route. You will be able to enjoy the view of the gently sloping hillsides covered with rows of vines worked by the wine growers. One of them will welcome you will to their estate for a tasting.
- Return to Beaune and installation in the hotel.
- Evening: rendez-vous at a good restaurant in the centre of town for dinner, drinks not included.
- Return to the hotel.
2nd Day:
- Breakfast.
- You will explore the history of France and the Duchy of Burgundy during a visit to the Hospices de Beaune, a superbly preserved masterpiece of flamboyant Gothic art from the 15th century that is famous throughout the world. The roofs of glazed coloured tiles and the magnificent polyptych by Van den Weyden will take your breath away.
- Before your lunch, rendez-vous at the former Eglise des Cordeliers, dating from the 13th century, for a tour of its wine cellars and a tasting.
- Lunch: you are free to lunch at the restaurant of your choice (at your charge)
- The typically Burgundian architecture of the Museum of Wine (Musée du Vin) houses collections that present the tradition, objects and techniques of viticulture.
- End of the programme.
